THE SOICAL HUB SAN SEBASTIÁN

The interior design project for The Social Hub in San Sebastián is built upon a fundamental idea: contrast as identity. San Sebastián is a city that has evolved without ever losing its essence—both in its architecture and its cultural soul—an identity that proudly embraces its traditions while simultaneously projecting itself toward innovation and change.

This balance of contrasts has been our main source of inspiration.

The hotel is conceived as a space where honest, almost raw materials—such as concrete blocks or wooden panels with exposed structures—coexist with softer finishes, rounded lines, and polished surfaces that add warmth and comfort. This tension between the unfinished and the sophisticated generates a vibrant atmosphere that invites both rest and inspiration.

The color palette, dominated by earthy tones—warm yellows, ochres, browns—is subtly interrupted by touches of blue, as a nod to the sea and sky of Donostia. The carefully selected textiles add texture and depth, reinforcing the sense of a temporary home that each corner of the hotel becomes.

The common areas play with perception and form: in the café bar, a structure made of glass blocks is mirrored to create a sculptural effect.

In the special room, designed as a multifunctional space adaptable to various uses, we embraced the versatility of the concept to transform the room as needed. A central metallic volume allows different functions to be concealed: bed, wardrobe, dining table, bookshelf, and even a television. This solution allowed us to play with the space, creating a flexible and surprising room that changes with its occupant.

More than designing a hotel, our goal was to create an experience—a place where travelers not only stay, but also breathe in and become part of the city’s cultural energy. The Social Hub is a reinterpretation of that Basque identity that looks toward innovation without losing its true essence.
